Hopkins has created in this work a sophisticated sound environment reminiscent of a classical style string quartet, yet playable by first year players. Several important techniques are incorporated here, including group staccato and pizzicato, and all parts are playable in first position. Stylisitc contrasts also abound in a great work for concert or festival use.
