Based on a twelfth century Latin melody “From the East…”, this inspired setting from 2016 was written for the Bethel University Wind Ensemble in St. Paul, Minnesota. The original words were written to give thanks for the donkey on which Jesus’s mother Mary rode. This uplifting arrangement takes the listener through a series of more and more inspiring variations, culminating in a huge, memorable ending. The writing for individual instruments is brilliant and gives all sections an achievable challenge, including some very creative piano and percussion writing.
